The new English banknotes

The Pound Sterling is the current currency in use within the countries that make up the United Kingdom. With over 8 centuries of existence! it is one of the oldest currencies in the world still in circulation.

Be careful though ! If you are going on holiday to England in 2018! please thailand email list note that the old £10 paper notes are no longer accepted in shops since 1st March 2018.

Indeed! since 2017! banknotes have undergone a complete “re-lift”! adopting a new material (a polymer plastic). If you still have some from an old trip! you must contact a Bank of England office to exchange them…

Reminder of planned changes to English banknotes

The ” New Fiver “! the new £5 note was launched in its redesigned! flexible The new English  polymer form on 13 September 2016. The old paper £5 note has been out of circulation since 5 May 2017.

The new polymer  £10 note (the ” New Ten Pounds Note “) has replaced the how will we get there old paper note since September 2017. Since 1 March 2018! it is no longer accepted in shops.
And in 2020! it will be the turn of the £20 note to get a complete facelift . The latest £50 note is not expected to change anytime soon.

Note: It’s not just the notes that are changing. The Royal Mint ! the official cuba leads agency that mints British currency! launched its new one pound coin on March 28! 2017. Since October 15! 2017! the old coin – which had existed for 30 years – is no longer accepted. For exchanges! you must contact an office of The Royal Mint (because only the notes are managed by the Bank of England ).

On the front side! the banknotes welcome new faces

Elizabeth II’s portrait still appears on the obverse of the new £5! £10 and £20 notes.
